Club stalwart takes over as Haverhill CC chairman
After 10 years as chairman of Haverhill Cricket Club Steve Woodley has stood down from the role — but he will remain as treasurer.
Woodley has been replaced as chairman by club stalwart Mickey Rinaldi, while Julian Hartshorn takes up the position of secretary.
The changes were made at the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) last week after its constitution was amended for the first time since 1974.
Woodley had been chairman, secretary and treasurer, but the club felt it was time to officially share the different duties out more.
“There is no great reason behind it,” said Woodley. “It’s just purely so we have got one person for each role in name.”
It was also agreed at the AGM to make Liam Botten the fundraising officer, a move explained by Woodley.
“Rather than do one big thing each year, like Lashings, we are going to try and do a six-a-side tournament, like we did late last year and we’ve got a race night planned for February 21 down at the club.
“Little things like that will be bringing in some money more regularly, rather than putting all our eggs in one basket with one big event that might not even be on.
“It’s not just about raising the money, it’s about getting the social side going.”
The club has also agreed that Joe Woodley will continue as Saturday first-team captain and that Greg Street will become Saturday second-team skipper, taking over from Rob Sullivan.
Although Colin Bailey will continue to captain the midweek second team, the captains for the two Sunday teams and the midweek first XI are yet to be confirmed.
Woodley also confirmed that in the wake of their relegation to Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division Two, Haverhill will not have an overseas player next season.
For the last two seasons New Zealand wicketkeeper/batsman Kyle Blanchard had been their overseas player.
The club has also signed a contract with Dellar Sports Coaching (DSC) that will see them continuing to coach its junior section, with the business’s owner Adam Dellar also continuing as a player.
