DIVISION ONE SOUTH
Linton 189 lost to Saffron Walden 286-7 by 97 runs
Linton’s winning streak came to an end at home to Saffron Walden after a disappointing display in the field.
The hosts uncharacteristically put down five good chances, two of which proved to be expensive, with Walden’s Alex Morley 103 and Tom Price 89 not out both dropped early on in their innings.
As a result, Linton were left chasing 286, a big score on the Linton ground.
Ajay Joseph did take the game to Saffron Walden with a quick 60 (which included five fours and five sixes) supported by Sam Hawley (22),
But with the Linton batsmen having to ‘throw their bats’ to stand a chance of winning the game and Saffron Walden holding all their catches, wickets were tumbling at regular intervals.
Linton finished all out for 189 off 33.3 overs in what was a bad day at the office in their quest for promotion.
n Olly North and Sam Matthews were the heroes of Linton II’s (152-6) four-wicket win at Comberton (151-5) in Division Five South, taking them from 83-6 to reach a 152 target.
After Comberton won the toss and elected to bat first, Linton got off to a good start, picking up the first two wickets without conceding too many runs.
Linton’s bowlers had to work hard for wickets with Comberton reaching 151-5 from their 40 overs.
North was Linton’s best bowler, taking 2-31 from his 10 overs. Thomas Wrenn also performed well, giving away only 18 runs off his eight overs.
The visitors’ innings got off to a disastrous start as they lost their first three wickets for only 18 runs inside the first eight overs.
Josh Hickford (34) and Allan Campbell (40) counter-attacked before North and Matthews rescued the victory.
