Former England, Yorkshire and Middlesex pace bowler Chris Silverwood has been named as the new head coach at Essex.

The 40-year-old played for Haverhill in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship after moving to Withersfield
(where he continues to live) helping them win promotion to Division One for the first time in their history in 2010.

He continued playing for the first team, combining it with some coaching at the club, until his resposibilities at Essex, whom he joined initially as a bowling coach, meant he could no longer commit any more time to Haverhill.

He had been assistant head coach at Essex since January 2014.
