Devonports heavily beaten in away tie
CAMBRIDGESHIRE SQUASH LEAGUE
Comberton II 4
Devonports Haverhill 1
Following a great comeback win last time out, Devonports Haverhill travelled to face a young, talented Comberton team and were heavily defeated.
Daryl Hester was matched against a number one young lady opponent and could not quite use his experience to get in front.
Although he forced a number of errors, the Comberton player came out the winner 15-9, 15-10, 15-9.
Skipper Malcolm Day just missed out in the first set as he went down in three sets 15-13, 15-3, 15-11.
Nathan Ttophi had a tough opening set in which he had game points, before an unlucky call decision gave the Comberton man the opportunity to snatch it.
Ttophi looked to be in control as he took the second set, but could not sustain the level required and missed out 17-15, 11-15, 15-8, 15-9.
Tony Archer at one played an especially talented young 13-year-old, who was undefeated this season, in an epic encounter.
With the youngster retrieving every ball, the rallies were long and demanding as Archer went two sets down.
However, Archer battled on and gained advantage to level and force a decider.
Archer used his overall experience to take a great victory 8-15, 10-15, 15-10, 15-8, 15-12.
Geoff Wilson was also matched with a younger opponent, who hit the ball hard and provided a good contest, which the Comberton player won 15-7, 15-13, 15-7.
The four points accrued for Devonports, though, was enough for them to retain their Division Three status for next season.
