Haverhill’s first and second teams were promoted without even having to bowl a ball on Saturday thanks to Sudbury’s win in their Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League promotion play-off final.

Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division One winners Sudbury scored 296-9 in 50 overs against Godmanchester Town, with skipper Darren Batch scoring 109 (9x4 and 6x6) and Akeal Hosein 66.

The Cambridgeshire & Huntingdonshire Tucker Gardner Division One champions’ overseas player, Kiran Adhav, was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-29 in ten overs.

In reply, Godmanchester could only muster 152 all out inside 38 overs, as Tom Huggins (4-32) and Hosein (4-33) shared the bulk of the wickets. Opener Nick Willmer top scored with 44.

Sudbury’s win means that the top three teams from Divisions Two to Division Six will be promoted, so Haverhill’s first team will now play in Division One in 2016, while the 2s will compete in Division Three.
