Ellis Kerr has been preparing for the past year and the moment has nearly arrived, with the Haverhill hot-shot due to compete in the 2018 IMG Academy Junior World Championships in San Diego later this month.

And the eight-year-old signed off with success in the latest round of the British Junior Golf Tour (BJGT).

He competed in the 7-8 age group at Littlestone Warren Golf Club on Sunday, pulling off an impressive 36 nett score – becoming the overall winner and recording the lowest gross score for his age group this year.

He is in a tense battle with runner-up Michael Haywood in the overall Order of Merit of the BJGT, and now sits just two points off the lead.

It was the ideal preparation ahead of his trip to California for the international competition, with the 7-8 age group event beginning on July 10.

Dad Garry said the family fly out to the USA today and are looking forward to the experience.

He said: “He managed to sign off – in the BJGT – with another win and shooting his best, with a tour best of 36 for level par in his age group this year!

“Hopefully Ellis’ purple patch continues for another couple of weeks.”

Ellis was also awarded a donation by Haverhill Golf Club ahead of the family’s trip, after the club raised funds to help with the costs of the trip.

Garry said: “We would like to thank Ellis interiors and I.F.F as well as Haverhill youth trust for their help too.”
