COSTLY MISS: Claudio Ofosu was one of a number of Rovers players to miss chances in Saturday’s 3-0 home loss
Haverhill Rovers 0
Felixstowe & Walton United 3
Felixstowe & Walton United completed a double over Haverhill Rovers in the Premier Division as the hosts were condemned to their fourth loss in five games on Saturday.
Hosting Rovers created the better of the first-half chances, but could not convert any of them. Luke Haines and Mitchell Burr both went close with 25-yard efforts from the right wing, while Claudio Ofosu beat a defender as he took forward a flick by Rory Jebb, only to shoot wide of the target with the Felixstowe goalkeeper in a stranded position.
And, those misses were duly punished when Felixstowe opened the scoring on 37 minutes.
A cross from Kyron Andrews was knocked down by Miles Powell, leaving Danny Smy with a routine finish to break the deadlock.
Three minutes before the break, Haverhill almost levelled the scoreline in spectacular fashion.
From just inside the Felixstowe half, Marcus Hunt went for goal and rattled the away side’s crossbar.
Yet, within five minutes of the restart, the game was effectively over after a double from Powell,
His first was a close-range header after Smy’s cross from the byline, and he made it 3-0 when a deflected effort fell his way six yards from goal.
Haverhill: Robinson, Luff (Bailey), Burr, Rudman, Claydon (Easton-Mulcare), Haines, Hobbs, Hunt, Jebb, Healey (Nurettin), Ofosu.
n Rovers return to action this Saturday with a short trip to Newmarket Town (3pm).
When the two teams met at the New Croft earlier in the season, it was the visiting Jockeys that ran out 2-1 winners.
Newmarket won last time out against Swaffham Town, but prior to that had been without a victory since late January.
On Easter Monday, Haverhill are on the road again when they travel to Long Melford (3pm). Melford have won none of their last five outings.
