Haverhill Borough player-manager Martin Westcott has confirmed that no players have joined in the past week, contrary to some reports.
Word had got around on the rumour mill that former Haverhill Rovers player Ryan Swallow had joined Borough after leaving Halstead Town, for whom he played 31 games last season, scoring eight goals.
However, Westcott set the record straight, telling the Echo: “He hasn’t signed. He’s been on holiday and hasn’t signed.
“I think he is weighing up some options and he is training with a few and there is nothing decided yet.
“I wouldn’t say we were after him in the first place. He is available and we would be interested if he wanted to come, but it’s up to him if he wants to come and play with us.”
On the pitch, Borough play their first pre-season friendly against Southern League Premier Division Cambridge City on Saturday at the Trinity College sports ground.
Westcott said: “It’s a friendly training match really. I think it will be good for the boys to test themselves against a higher level opposition and put to the test some of the things we have been doing on the training pitch.
“It’s pretty much going to be there first team, maybe with a couple of trialists in there.
“Our lads won’t be used to playing against that level of player so it will be good for them.”
Borough’s next friendly match will be away at Kershaw Senior A side Chatteris Town on July 18.
