Haverhill Rovers chairman Ali Shulver has confirmed that he will be standing down from the role.
Shulver has been chairman for coming up to three years since the resignation of his predecessor Mick Tokley, but he has now decided to call it a day.
A proposal has been made to appoint Graham Salmonese as an interim chairman until the club’s annual general meeting in May, when they will aim to make a more permanent appointment.
The proposal to make Salmonese the interim chairman cannot go through unless approved by the Haverhill Rovers committee, with a meeting due to take place next week.
Shulver, who also managed the first team for two months in the 2012/13 season, said: “I’m definitely going to be stepping aside. I’m happy to do that but I want the football club to consider the best option and find the right person to do the job.
“I’ve always said I will step aside as soon as a replacement is found but it’s down to the committee to decide who they want as chairman.”
Salmonese, a former chairman of the Suffolk Cricket League and current committee member at Haverhill Cricket Club offered to become interim chairman after discussions between a number of interested parties involved in the current crisis at the club, which in the last ten days has seen player-manager Michael Shinn sacked and five further players walk out.
These included goalkeeper Alex Archer, who has now joined Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division outfit St Neots Town after initially playing just one match for Ryman League Division One north side Witham Town.
Twins, Scott and Tyler Kemp, have also joined Witham Town after departing from Rovers, while Leon Bailey went to Mildenhall Town and Ty Alleyne asked to be de-registered. He is currently not signed to a club.
All the players that are left have made themselves available for the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division match at Ipswich Wanderers tomorrow (3pm), although centre-half Nick Wilderspin remains out with a knee problem.
•First team squad member and Under-18 player Rhys Shulver has left Rovers and signed for Thurlow Nunn League First Division side Team Bury.
•In the Thurlow Nunn First Division tonight eighth placed Haverhill Borough take on fourth-placed Ely City at the New Croft (7.45pm).
