Goalkeeper Jack Cherry has joined Haverhill Rovers on a permanent basis following his loan spell from Braintree Town Reserves.
The 18-year-old has produced some eye-catching displays in the 12 games he has played since arriving at Rovers and will take his place in the line up for Saturday’s Premier Division fixture at home to Ipswich Wanderers (3pm) as a fully-fledged Rovers player.
Rovers player-manager, Michael Shinn, said: “It was a case of if Jack was happy to stay and play, we were happy for him to stay.
“He has been excellent for us. I think maybe he has found a club where he fits at the moment.”
Rovers prepare to face an Ipswich side on the back of a 2-1 Boxing Day defeat at Walsham-le-Willows.
A poor ten minute spell saw Rovers fall 2-0 down to goals from Charlie Webb and Andy Wood before Dalton O’Brien’s 24th minute goal - his tenth this season - reduced the arrears.
Shinn feels Rovers did enough in the remainder of the game - which saw Marc Abbott red-carded for a second-half stamp - to warrant at least a point, but it wasn’t to be.
Ipswich come to The New Croft without a win in their last five outings and it is a match Shinn feels Rovers are capable of winning.
He said: “I would like to think we could get three points. Without sounding too over confident, we are certainly capable of winning the game.”
Shinn hopes that Marcus Hunt and Paul Abbott will return after missing the Walsham match and that striker Dan Cornwell is recovered from his ankle problem.
