THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE
Team Bury 0 Haverhill Borough 3
A hat-trick by Jonny Milne was enough to secure all three points for Haverhill Borough on their visit to Team Bury last night (Tuesday).
Borough’s Graham Smith was the busier of the two goalkeepers in the first 20 minutes saving from a Cam Nicholls volley after 13 minutes and then watching as a Jed Wigley free kick skimmed the crossbar five minutes later.
However, Milne put the visitors ahead after 23 minutes with an exquisite lob from the edge of the penalty area, controlling the ball in a crowd of players before beating Josh Eardley in the Bury goal.
As the second half opened Team Bury had their best part of the game, with Harry O’Connor making an important deflection before Smith was again called into action, diving full length to palm away a shot from Matt Skevington, and then racing from his line to block from Nick Ingram.
Nick Ingram for Team Bury and O’Connor were both then dismissed for somewhat minor offences, each receiving two yellow cards, before Milne scored his second with a stooping header from a Harry Halls corner.
As the clock ran down Matt Staines was brought down in the Team Bury penalty area with minutes remaining in the game, and skipper Halls graciously allowed Milne to complete his hat-trick after sending Eardley the wrong way at the spot kick.
The win moved Borough up to seventh ahead of their visit to second-placed Great Yarmouth Town on Saturday (3pm kick off)
•Owen Longley has signed for Haverhill Borough for a second time after a short spell at Halstead Town.
The winger left Borough last summer to join Haverhill Rovers, where he made 15 first team appearances before joining the Humbugs in January, but made just three appearances for them before moving on to Borough.
