Fox century helps the IIs to win over Coggeshall

Haverhill II 234-5 beat

Coggeshall II 230-8

by five wickets

An unbeaten century from Steve Fox helped Haverhill II bounce back to winning ways with a five-wicket triumph over Coggeshall II.

Joey Kettle (1-35) found an early breakthrough for the hosts, who had won the toss and invited Coggeshall to bat first, dismissing opener Sam McLeay in the first over.

Craig Lesiak (36) and Charlie Green (34) rebuilt aggressively, adding 66 runs in good time before Martyn Wilkins (2-65) nipped one back to bowl Green with the score at 70-2 off 17 overs.

Harry Harding (1-33) bowled Lesiak with a beauty to reduce the visitors to 80-3, but Jack Simons (72) and Coggesgall skipper Darren Green (33) took the attack back to Haverhill and scored 76 in 13 overs.

Andrew Argent (1-57) removed Green with a good catch by James Boulton, with Liam Botten producing figures of 3-4 as the end of the innings saw the home side fight back to restrict Coggeshall to 230-8.

Haverhill set off on the run chase with Sam Hartshorn (12) and Fox (104 not out) at the wicket, with the former hitting three excellent boundaries in the first over before being bowled.

Boulton (11) joined Fox and added 23 runs in four overs before nicking behind, with this bringing Rob Dovaston (35) to the wicket and with the Fox the pair scored freely.

After compiling 83 runs in 16 overs, Dovaston was run out by a tremendous throw from the boundary, which then triggered Haverhill’s customary wobble with Lee Phillips (six) and Botten (zero) both falling quickly to leave the innings in the balance at 134-5 off of 26 overs.

Fox continued to bat superbly and was joined by Kettle (43 no), who together produced an excellent unbroken partnership of 100 to take Haverhill to victory in the 42nd over.

Haverhill (fourth) next face a trip to sixth-placed Kelvedon and Feering this Saturday (1pm).
