A makeshift Haverhill Rovers found themselves three goals down after just six minutes as they suffered their biggest defeat of the season.

Shorn of many of their first team regulars after the upheaval at the club in the past fortnight the XI that started the match featured three youngsters on loan from St Neots Town and saw Mick Reardon take charge for his first match after being named interim manager.

The trio included Claudio Ofosu, the younger brother of former Haverhill Rovers top scorer Andy, who had netted on his debut in the 2-2 draw at Ipswich Wanderers on Saturday.

Haverhill were 2-0 behind after just four minutes thanks to two goals in a minute from Luke Brown, on loan from Histon.

Mike Hyem added a third from a corner after just six minutes as a cricket score looked on the cards.

Centre half Charlie Bowen added a fourth on 21 minutes from another set piece before his fellow defender Lloyd Groves got in on the act with a fifth goal, again from close range, on 31 minutes.

After such a torrid 31 minutes Haverhill showed some grit and determination to prevent the score mounting up too far and dogged defending restricting the hosts to just one further goal late in the second period from Austen Diaper.

Rovers are without a match on Saturday but travel to FC Clacton for a re-arranged Premier Division match on Tuesday (7.45pm).

•Haverhill Borough’s scheduled home match against Stowmarket Town in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Borough hope to return to action on Saturday with a league match at home to Kings Lynn Town Reserves (3pm) in a what is a fund-raiser for My Blue Heart.
