FIRST DIVISION

Long Melford 1 Haverhill Borough 0

A solitary strike by James Clark in first-half stoppage time was enough for Long Melford to defeat Borough and all but seal their promotion to the Premier Division.

Melford played much of the game with a one-man advantage after borough full-back Lee Hurkett received a straight red card for a 16th minute tackle.

Fine goalkeeping by Charlie Turner prevented the hosts from adding to their advantage and the visitors almost snatched a leveller in added time but Cameron Watson’s header was saved acrobatically by Sam Mansfield.

Borough return to league action at home to Needham Market Reserves on Friday (17) at 7.45pm.
