Haverhill Borough overturn deficit to defeat Debenham LC
THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE FIRST DIVISION KNOCKOUT CUP
Debenham LC 1 Haverhill Borough 3
Haverhill Borough finally played their first round match at Debenham LC after three postponements and came away with a fine 3-1 victory.
The game also signalled the return to Borough of midfielder Aaron Forshaw after a brief spell with Kershaw Premier side West Wratting and the full debut of new signing, former Haverhill Rovers striker Scott Lodge, who has joined from Coggeshall Town in the Essex & Suffolk Border League Premier Division.
After a goalless first half the hosts took the lead early in the second period when Tom Hardwick’s foul presented Sam Diaper with a chance from the penalty spot, which he duly converted.
Borough levelled when good work from Jonny Milne set up Matt Staines for a tap in.
Rory Bone was proving a constant menace to the Debenham back four and he teed up substitute Craig Pruden for a deflected shot from 23 yards that put Borough ahead.
The win was sealed inside the final ten minutes when another substitute, Forshaw, headed the ball on to Bone who fired it into the top corner from an angle.
Borough now play Cornard United at home in the quarter-final on a date that is yet to be decided.
It was the seventh game in a row in which Borough have scored three or more goals and they next play Westerfield United in the Second Round of the Suffolk FA Senior Cup at the New Croft on Saturday (3pm).
Children accompanied by a paying adult will be admitted to the match for free and receive a free meal of chips, sausage and cola.
