Haverhill Rugby Club’s head coach Martin Hughes learnt from the best recently when he spent the day with England head coach Stuart Lancaster.

Welshman Hughes was invited to Twickenham to join Lancaster and numerous other members of the England coaching set-up, including backs coach Andy Farrell, Mike Catt and assistant coach Graham Rowntree.

Hughes and the other coaches present were invited in recognition of having qualified as level two coaches this year.

He was invited by QBE, which is assisting the Rugby Football Union (RFU) to provide 2015 new level two coaches in 2015 and who helped Hughes complete a three-day coaching course over three months earlier this year.

Hughes, now Haverhill’s most qualified coach, said: “There was a talk by the England team sports nutritionist, then by the sports psychologist for the England rugby team and by the coaches development director and then by Stuart Lancaster and then I got selected to go pitch side for some photos.

“It was fantastic and a great day out.”
