Haverhill coach praises their exciting new centre pairing
Haverhill head coach Martin Hughes is a very happy man with the season so far as their final league match of 2015 approaches.
The Castle Playing Fields side go to Cottenham Renegades on Saturday (2pm) knowing that a win would ensure they finish the year in at least second place in Division Two West of the Greene King IPA Eastern Counties League.
With four consecutive victories behind them, Hughes said: “It’s going really well. We have excellent numbers at training and are getting a lot of interest in the club and people want to play rugby.
“I’m really pleased and enthusiast at how the boys are responding to training.
“Cottenham is never an easy place to play. They are fairly tight at their place and they are well drilled and well organised and they’ve been playing together for a while but now we’ve got continuity, people playing together regularly, and there’s a really good feel at the club and myself and Jake (Jeffs) are having some really good training sessions.”
After missing the last two matches, Adam Hunt returns to resume what his head coach believes is proving to be an exciting partnership with fellow centre, Sam Holmes, who only switched to rugby in early October having played football for Haverhill Rovers.
“Sam still has a lot to learn about rugby but he’s enthusiastic, he is quick and he is fit,” said Hughes.
“I think we will have one of the finest centre pairings around as well.
“I’m really glad we’ve got him on board.”
