Haverhill complete the double over Cambridge Nomads II

Haverhill 4 Cambridge Nomads II 0

Haverhill hosted this rescheduled match from January and maintained their current winning run to complete a double over Cambridge Nomads II.

Cambridge Nomads had a much stronger set up than when Haverhill beat them 3-1 previously and were the better team in the early exchanges, causing the Haverhill defence to be in action from the start.

Haverhill did take time to settle and struggled to break through the Nomads defence with very little attack on goal but after 27mins Emily Page Blair picked up on a pass from Mandy Stopps and broke the deadlock with a tight angled shot squeezing past the ‘keeper.

This calmed the nerves and just before half-time Mandy Williamson’s blistering strike from a short corner gave Haverhill a 2-0 lead.

The third goal (the best of the game) came after just four passes up the pitch from defence through the midfield from Jane Farrow to Tina Bunch to Cara Ainsworth, whose pass was perfectly placed for Willamson to first time strike the ball at the top of the D.

The win was sealed with a well taken effort from Tina Bunch in the last short corner of the match.

Overall a good team performance with Ann Reed player of the match for her solid defensive play.

Next week Haverhill have a very tough game against Cambridge University at home at 3pm, very much aware of their 6-0 defeat away.

Hopefully with some good wins now behind them, and renewed confidence Haverhill will be able to give a stronger performance.

The club is also running Quicksticks coaching sessions for the juniors for the next five Sundays from 10-30am to 11-30am.

It is open to girls and boys of primary school age and of any ability. All are invited to come along and give it a try.

All they need is a pair of trainers, energy and a drink. Equipment is supplied and it’s free of charge and lots of fun.
