Haverhill hammer ten-men of Felixstowe
MARSHALL HATCHICK TWO COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP
Haverhill 71-2 beat Felixstowe 67 by eight wickets
Haverhill romped home against a depleted Felixstowe with almost two thirds of their overs to spare.
The visitors only arrived with ten men and were a little depleted due to the Ipswich v Norwich play-off match and exam revision.
The breakthrough came early as Ben Hopkins (3) padded up to Richard Partridge and the ball hit his off stump.
It soon became 8-2 when Howard Green (1) took a suicidal single to Josh Ruthven at point and was well beaten by his rocket throw.
Matt Lawrenson (41 no) and Rob Jones (6) added 20 runs before Ruthven (1-18) knocked back the latter’s off stump.
Hunter Ellison (3) was bowled by Partridge at 31 and S teve Bloomfield (2) superbly caught by the diving Phil Dingley behind the stumps again off Partridge (3-18) with the score at 36-5 off 15 overs.
Martyn wilkins came on and made an instant impact trapping Brian Nichols lbw for a duck with his second delivery and Bailey (1-11) trapped Joe Bonner (1) lbw in his second over with the score at 43-7 off 18 overs.
Harry Harding replaced Bailey as Lawrenson decided to play some shots to try to boost the score before Wilkins (2-8)bowled Adam Hopkins (0) with the score at 48-8 off 19 overs.
Matthew Cade joined Lawrenson in a final wicket partnership of 19 before Harding (1-10) had Cade stumped by Dingley to end the innings after 24 overs.
In reply Liam Botten (22) and Sam Street (12) played positively with Street strong off his legs before offering a return catch to Hopkins (1-28) at on 20-1.
George Biggs (21no) joined Botten and played some pleasing shots before Botten was lbw with the scores level. Alex Archer joined Biggs and soon struck a four to win the match in the 16th over.
Credit to Felixstowe for travelling with ten men.
