Newmarket Town 4 Haverhill Rovers 2

Newmarket never looked back after going two goals to the good after just 15 minutes in this local derby.

The first goal after eight minutes came from Adam Dalby, who fired in a free-kick from the edge of the penalty box.

Steve Holder headed home Jake Wayne’s cross to double the advantage on 15 minutes, before Rovers almost reduced the arrears when a header from a corner came back off the crossbar.

Dalby’s cross bounced over Rovers’ ‘keeper Jack Cherry just after the hour to put The Jockey’s 3-0 up before Mark Webster’s shot made it 4-0 on 75 minutes.

Two minutes later Marcus Hunt pulled one back for Rovers with a volley from a corner and the deficit was further cut on 89 minutes when Martyn Farrant headed home from a corner.
