MARSHALLL HATCHICK TWO COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP

DIVISION TWO

Haverhill 146 lost to Copford 152-6 by four wickets

Haverhill’s below-par batting performance cost them dearly as they went down to their first defeat of the season.

Of Haverhill’s top four batsmen only Sam Powell (23) reached double figures, leaving all-rounder Dan Poole to rescue the innings with a fine 67.

Valuable contributions from Anthony Phillips (11) and Ben Wilkins (17) helped the hosts reach 146, but they were bowled out with just 40 of their 45 overs used, handing Copford the extra overs for their reply.

Kieran Savill (15-3-35-3) was the stand-out bowler for Copford.

Despite a good bowling display by Haverhill, led by skipper Joe Woodley (11-4-26-2) and Callum Brunning (who took 4-65 from 15 overs the day before celebrating his 18th birthday) the visitors got home, thanks mostly to a chanceless 84 from opener Tom Sinclair.

Haverhill will hope to return to winning ways away to winless Lakenheath on Saturday.
