Haverhill Ladies 'savouring the glory of victory' after claiming first win of the season at the 15th attempt
Tina Bunch says Haverhill Ladies are ‘savouring the glory of victory’ after picking up their first win of the season at the weekend, writes Alex Moss.
Haverhill went into Saturday’s home clash with second-placed Bury St Edmunds II winless and sitting bottom of the East Women’s League Division Three North West table.
However, Vicky Steed’s late strike ensured Haverhill were 1-0 victors, a result the club’s player-chair Bunch was thrilled with.
“It was a smash and grab and Bury were stunned, but it was nice to get our first win,” she said.
“We’re savouring the glory of victory at the moment, but we know there’s still a lot to do if we want to avoid relegation.
“We’ve moved off the bottom of the table for the first time in a few weeks, so we’re feeling a lot more positive.
“We’ve just beaten the team that are second in the league, which has given us confidence.”
On Saturday, Haverhill visit Huntingdon (1.30pm), while the seconds host Bury St Edmunds III (3.30pm) in Division Four North West (South).
