Haverhill Under-11s win cup final on home turf

Haverhill 248-7 beat

Weston Colville 245-6

by three runs

Haverhill Under-11s edged a close Borders Junior Under-11s Cricket League Cup final against Weston Colville on Sunday.

Weston Colville won the toss and put Haverhill into bat, with the hosts getting off to a steady start but with wickets falling and some good fielding by the visitors.

Haverhill struggled to mass a comfortable total, but their score was boosted in the last three overs by some good batting by the partnership of Max Egan and Joseph Rinaldi, which helped them finish on 248-7.

Haverhill’s bowlers Max Meadows, George Cliston, Dylan Williams, Riley Jennings and Riley Pector Hird all took early wickets as Weston Colville never looked like threatening the run chase.

However, with some fine batting from the visiting partnership of Zak and Oliver Earl, it all came down to the last over with Weston Colville needing nine runs to win.

Haverhill’s talented Egan bowled the final over and restricted the visitors to just five runs, ensuring the home side won by a narrow margin with Weston Colville finishing just short on 245-6.

Weston Colville’s Zak Earl was awarded the player of the match award.

The Borders Junior Cricket League would like to thank this year’s sponsor, GEA Refrigeration UK Ltd, for their sponsorship during the 2016 season.
