Ray Turner’s 38th minute goal was enough to give Wivenhoe Town all three points against Borough last night (Wed).

Borough gave a much improved display after their 5-1 defeat at home to March Town United on Saturday, but were unable to break down the unbeaten Dragons.

The only goal arrived when Borough lost possession in the Wivenhoe half and Jake Plane fed the host’s top-scorer Ray Turner who converted the chance.

Ten minutes into the second period Gareth Thomas fouled Owen Bryan in the penalty area to give the hosts the chance to go two up from the spot, but Charlie Turner kept out Adam Hampson’s kick to keep the deficit to just one goal.

It was the second match in a row in which the Borough ‘keeper had saved a penalty.

Borough tested the Wivenhoe ‘keeper with a Jonny Milne shot from range and a Ryan Swallow drive but they were unable to find their way back into the match.

Wivenhoe’s win keeps them top the table and means they remain the only undefeated side in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division.

Borough return to league action on Saturday when Cornard United are the visitors to the New Croft (3pm).
