Manning aiming to build on the ‘buzz’ of women’s game after taking new role
Emma Manning wants to continue to grow women’s football after being named the new manager of Suffolk FA Ladies’ Representative team.
The 29-year-old, who replaces Sarah Dooley, has been appointed ahead of the county’s participation in this season’s East Anglian Counties Championship.
Manning has a vast amount of experience within the industry, starting at Colchester United Community Sports Trust, before going on to work in the USA in the Chicago area with MLS soccer with Chicago Fire Soccer camps and elite travel teams.
When she returned to England she began work with Essex FA as a community coach and women’s and girls’ development officer.
She also managed Essex Schools’ FA Under-16 Girls and worked at Essex FA Girls’ Player Development Centre before more recently working for The FA with The FA Skills programme in Kent and then Suffolk and co-ordinated Suffolk FA Girls’ Player Development Centre.
She currently works as an FA Mentor within Essex and at Essex FA Girls’ Centre of Excellence where she has worked for a number of years (also when it was formerly known as Colchester United Community Sports Trust Female Centre of Excellence) with a vast range of age groups from Under-9s to Under-17s.
Reflecting on the news Manning spoke of her delight to be part of the county set up and her aims to keep building on the recent resurgence of the women’s game.
“This is a different challenge and one I am very much looking forward to,” she said.
“It is a privilege for players to represent their county, and I am proud to be a part of that.
“It’s an exciting time for the female game, especially after the huge success of The World Cup and with the FA promoting their ‘We Can Play’ campaign there is a real buzz around the game, which is something we can build on.”
Chris Smith, who is currently coaching at Ipswich Town and Hadleigh United Youth FC, will work alongside Manning as coach.
The former Hadleigh United striker is currently qualified at FA Youth Module Level Three.
