Haverhill Hockey Club’s second XI is continuing the imperious form it showed last season by winning all four of their games so far.
With just five weeks of the East Women’s League season gone, the Division Four North West (South) side is already the only one out of all 131 participating teams to have not conceded a goal.
Last season the team won the same division, winning every match.
The first team, meanwhile, put in its best performance so far in Division Three North West when it returned from a 200 mile round trip to Leadenham last Saturday with a 1-1 draw courtesy of Vicky Steed’s first half goal, a result that ended the home side’s 100 per cent start to the campaign.
The first team has so far lost two, drawn two and one won of its five matches to date and on Saturday faces Huntingdon at Haverhill Leisure Centre (11am).
Club chairman and first team player, Tina Bunch, said of the season so far: “We had a bit of a slow start, the first team, as we have not had a regular squad.
“We’ve had lots of holidays so we’ve been doubling up, legally within the rules, with second team players, but obviously when you have got players who are playing twice (in one day) they are not going to be quite as good.
“The actual performance was the best of the season so far.”
The second team is away to Cambridge City 4 at the Perse School on Saturday (2pm).
