Haverhill Golf Club’s head professional Paul Wilby hosted his Christmas Cracker event on Saturday.
All sections of the golf club’s membership were represented and in total 96 players took part in the competition, which featured a stableford format and was played off 7/8ths handicap.
The father and son partnership of Colin and Ben Bradnam were the winners with 45 points, just enough to beat their closest challengers in Mark Barratt and Dave Rosenwold on 44 points.
Andy Fish and Jason West completed the top three placings with 43 points.
n The Men’s Midweek Stableford was played last Wednesday, with Alan Carter the overall winner, returning a very respectable score of 39 points to reduce his handicap by a shot to eight.
Carter also took Division One honours ahead of James Hastie (37 points) and Tom Walker (32 points), while Richard Norden finished top of the pile in Division Two.
Norden’s final score of 38 points saw him finish five points clear of Stuart Haworth (33 points) in second, with Mark Firman scoring 31 points to finish in third spot.
In Division Three it was Andrew Howard who came out on top with a score of 38 points, with Barry Shuter (33 points) edging Dave Hedley (33 points) on a count back to take second place.
n On Sunday Haverhill Juniors competed in a nine-hole stableford competition.
The winner was Jason Carpenter with 22 points, while Harry Proctor (17 points) finished runner-up on a count back ahead of Josh Huyler (17 points), who also needed a count back to take third ahead of James Iron (17 points).
n Haverhill Golf Club are holding their own Christmas Eve Carvery at the Parklands Restaurant on the site next week.
The carvery is available from 12pm next Thursday, with the last sitting at 2.30pm.
