Haverhill’s second XI will be promoted if they can win their home match tomorrow (Saturday) against City of Peterborough IV (3pm).
Victory will leave Haverhill a minimum of 11 points ahead of third-placed Wisbech Town II in East Women’s League Division Four North West (South) with just three games to go.
With the league’s secretary confirming to the Echo earlier this week a top-two finish will earn Haverhill II the right to be promoted, it could be party time at Haverhill Leisure Centre come 4.30pm.
Although aware of the situation, Haverhill II captain Nicole Bailey says the team’s focus is greater on maintaining their unbeaten record for the season and ideally keeping up their current 100 per cent win record.
She said: “I think deep down we know we are going to be going up anyway, so it’s now just keeping the unbeaten record going.
“If anybody asks me (about the hockey) I say we are unbeaten and we have won every single game, so to lose now would be gutting.
“It’s not something you can say Haverhill have done before. It’s nice to have the chance to say we are league champions and unbeaten league champions.”
While the second team are going for promotion glory, the first team has a tricky visit to City of Peterborough IV in Division Three North West (South).
The games starts at 11.30am and victory would consolidate Haverhill’s position of fifth in the table.
