Cottenham Renegades 7
Haverhill Rugby Club edged past Cottenham Renegades 10-7 to win the Cambridgeshire Plate final on Saturday.
Playing in the competition for the first time in their history, Haverhill showed great hard work and determination to lift the trophy at Cambourne Rugby Club.
Simon Potter scored a try for Haverhill, which was converted by Jake Jeffs, who was also on the scoresheet with a penalty.
Haverhill took a coach full of players and supporters to the final, which was always going to be against a very experienced outfit in Cottenham.
The team played with passion, maturity and with the honour of the club as they put their bodies on the line.
The result topped their previous biggest achievement of the season, which came back in January when they travelled to unbeaten Bury St Edmunds III and ran out 13-10 winners.
Haverhill finished their Greene King IPA Eastern Counties League Division Two West season in fourth place earlier this month, and head into the 2016-17 campaign with the club hoping to re-enter a second XV.
The club would like to thank the unsung heroes behind the scenes, including the club committee, volunteer bar staff, ladies preparing the meals, as well as VP and the sponsors.
