Despite a valiant effort to battle back in the afternoon singles, Haverhill Golf Club’s ladies lost out in the Ladies Cranworth quarter-finals against Ufford Park at Stowmarket.
Ufford Park seized the advantage following the morning foursomes matches last Thursday and were able to progress into the last four with a 6.5-2.5 scoreline.
The July IFF Challenge was played last Wednesday with some exceptional scores returned across all divisions, notably that of Lee Firman (Division Three winner) who scored 44 points, cutting his handicap by three shots to 20.
Also of note was Lewis Whiting, the winner of Division One, who had seven birdies in his round in his 40 points. Divison Two was won by Jake Warner with 40 points on count-back from Bob Campbell.
The Ladies Midweek Stableford was also played last Wednesday with Linda Alexander the clear winner, returning a superb score of 43 points, reducing her handicap by four shots to 19, under the exceptional score reduction.
Jackie Condon finished in second place with 40 points and Leah Letcher finished third with 39 points.
Anne Reed was the runaway winner in the Saturday Stableford, claiming an impressive victory by returning a score of 45 points, slashing her handicap by five shots to 31. Haverhill Junior Fiona Stokes was second with 34 points.
Haverhill Juniors competed in the Waddup Windows Trophy on Friday. Despite difficult weather conditions, all the Juniors taking part finished their round, for which they were all commended by organiser Doreen Darbey.
The winner of the Stableford competition was Fiona Stokes with 26 points. The Medal was won by James Iron with 79 from a 12 handicap, with junior captain Dan Walker, 81 from a 13 handicap, second and Josh Hulyer, 84 from a 15 handicap, third.
The Men’s Medal (for results see left) was played on Sunday with the overall winner by six shots Frank Gooch, who carded a superb nett 62, reducing his handicap by two to 13.
