Brentwood Bucks 5 Haverhill Blackjacks 17
Haverhill Blackjacks made it five wins out of five with a 16-5 win over Brentwood Bucks after leading from start to finish, despite having to draft in four new players for this game.
The first inning saw the Bucks’ first three batters all sat down by starting pitcher Tommy Opal, in his last appearance for the side before going back to the States, Daniel Becking, Dylan Sheppard and Gareth Francis scoring to give the Blackjacks a 3-0 lead.
Brentwood were left scoreless for two more innings, Haverhill putting on seven in the second inning and five in the third to take a commanding 15 run lead.
Blake Broekhove, Becking twice more, Sheppard twice more, Francis once more, Steven Phillips (in a return to form) twice, Opal twice, Chris Highland and Dan Grimwood all crossing home plate to score, including a home run for Sheppard.
The Bucks made a short lived comeback over the next three innings as they scattered five runs amongst them, the Blackjacks not scoring any more runs themselves in the fourth and fifth innings before Sheppard and Francis, who also made an unassisted double play, made it round to score and make it 17-5.
Sheppard, on to pitch in place of Opal, then ended the game with a strikeout in the top of the seventh inning to give his side a win via the mercy rule.
