Haverhill Running Club rounded off a record-breaking year with its annual Santa Run through the town.
In 2014 the club’s ladies team came third in the prestigious Kevin Henry 5K league while several individuals picking up prizes in county competition events.
The club has also seen a surge in the number of members taking part in organised competition, and quite often fields the largest team at local events.
Club coach Trevor Bunch said: “We started in 1998 and this is the best year ever.
“We now have 215 members many of whom joined the club through our beginner’s courses and have gone onto greater things.
“We have just rounded off the year with our annual Santa Run – which saw a record number of over 60 ‘Santa’s’ pounding the streets of Haverhill.”
The club is now looking ahead to 2015 with its next Beginner’s Course that will be starting on Monday, January 12.
The ten weekly sessions will take place at Haverhill Leisure Centre at 7pm.
The programme is designed with complete beginners in mind, and culminates in a 5K challenge event.
Bunch said: “Some people find it quite an emotional experience completing the 5K challenge being cheered on by the rest of the running club, and many of them remain in the club and take part in the challenge every month to see how they progress after the course.”
All sessions are led by qualified coaches and Run Leaders from Haverhill Running Club, who helped 60 beginners through the course in 2014.
The course costs £30 and includes the ten sessions and a hi-viz vest.
Annual membership costs £25 and includes two weekly training sessions.
