Haverhill Golf Club staged their club championship on Saturday, and while played in good weather conditions the course was set up as a stern test for all competitors.
In total 38 players braved the 36 hole event but thankfully temperatures did not soar to the heights of recent times.
Long-standing members Spenny Tatum and Mich Calmet were on hand as starters/scorers in the event which contains two scoring sections: gross for all players and gross for 10-18 handicap players.
The winner of the gross prize and the 2016 Club Champion was young Lewis Whiting with rounds of 74 and 73 for a seven-over total of 147. In second place was Liam Merritt with rounds of 77 and 73 with third place going to Harvey Bavester with rounds of 76 and 75.
The winner of the Spencer Tatum Cup 10-18 handicap section was Scott Turner with gross scores of 83 and 78 for a total of 161. In second was Colin Bradnam with rounds of 83 and 84 with third place going to Martin Mansfield with rounds of 85 and 83.
n Meanwhile, Linton’s Tony Kelly is heading out to Lahti, Finaland today as part of the first British mini golf squad to enter a seniors (over-45s) championship. His son, Adam Kelly, is coaching the team, whose tournament gets under way on Wednesday.
