New signings confirmed by Haverhill CC
Haverhill Cricket Club have signed three new players for their 2016 Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship campaign.
Wicketkeeper/batsman Dave Humphrey, opening batsman Chris Palmer and bowler Andrew Argent have joined the club, while all-rounder James Smith has re-signed and become available for Saturday cricket after a change in jobs.
Haverhill’s first team are back in Division One and the second XI will compete in Division Three for the first time when the season starts on April 16, after both sides earned promotion in 2015.
Humphrey has already proved a key player for Haverhill’s Sunday and midweek first teams, helping them to second place in the Hunts County Bats Suffolk League Division One and the Division One title in the Adams Harrison Midweek League in 2015.
Last season he was part of the Eaton Socon side that won the Tucker Gardner Cambridgeshire & Huntingdonshire Premier League Division Two title. In more than 10 years at the club he has become its third highest run scorer of all time in Tucker Gardner matches and has taken 176 catches and completed 113 stumpings for the club.
Usually a number five batsman at Eaton Socon, Humphrey amassed 5,406 runs in 71 innings at an average of 41/58, with 37 half centuries and two centuries.
In the 2014 season he was the team’s second highest run scorer.
Palmer, 28, has played 433 games for Babraham in all its various guises, be it as Babraham, Foxton & Babraham or Sawston & Babraham, as it was last season.
All of his Saturday cricket at Babraham has been competed in either Division One or Two of the Tucker Gardner Premier and overall he has scored 11,939 runs in 382 innings at an average of 45.05, with 35x50s and 11 centuries.
Argent has played in Tucker Gardner Division One and Two for Abington for the last six seasons having started out with Mill Green, taking 251 wickets at an average of 25.25 from 1,585.3 overs (261 of them maidens) at an economy rate of 4.0.
