The new first team captain at Haverhill Cricket Club has been revealed - and he cannot wait to get cracking with plans for next season.

Adam Dellar was officially named as Joe Woodley’s replacement at the club’s committee meeting on Monday (12).

The 25-year-old batsman and head coach at the club is reprising a role he had held previously before departing to play at Sawston for one season in 2011.

Having earned promotion back to the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division One, Dellar now wants to focus on improving the squad for the challenge ahead.

He said: “We are looking for one or two players of real quality. One in the bowling and one in the batting department as well. Possibly a seamer and an opening batsman.”

Wicket keeper batsman Dave Humphrey (who plays Sunday and midweek cricket for Haverhill) has already agreed to join the Two Counties first team from Eaton Socon, who this season won the Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Tucker Gardner Premier League Division Two title.

He will replace Anthony Phillips behind the stumps as he returns to being a front line bowler.

Dellar added: “It is difficult, but saying that if we didn’t manage to sign anyone else other than Dave it wouldn’t be a problem.

“I think we have got the strength in our club as a whole.

“We want to keep the team and the club full of local guys who are proud to play for the town and represent the town and that’s foremost.”
