Newmarket too strong in friendly win at Wratting

West Wratting 1

Newmarket Town 3

West Wratting were beaten 3-1 by Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Newmarket Town in their latest pre-season friendly on Friday night.

Wratting started slowly with Newmarket dominating the play, which eventually led to Joey Abbs scoring for the visitors.

With 10 minutes left in the half Wratting came close to an equaliser when Ian Bluett’s header hit the underside of the bar and stayed out of the net.

Wratting’s midfield four and strikers worked hard to create another chance, when Daryl Gritton’s through ball fed Danny Hill but the Newmarket keeper spread his body well.

Mistakes from set pieces enabled Steve Holder and Will Lawton to give Newmarket a 3-0 lead, before great short play helped Wratting get the goal they deserved when Jon Welsh smashed the ball into the bottom corner.
