Devonports Haverhill squash team began their new season with a tough home fixture against a Crown Lodge side who were relegated from Division Three last season.

Nathan Ttophi opened proceedings at two and had a tight encounter, coming through in four sets 15-13, 15-17, 15-12, 17-15 after playing some good squash.

Daryl Hester, at five, faced an experienced female player and saw himself two sets down 11-15, 15-17 before battling back with better length shots for 15-13.

He then saved match points in the fourth before finally coming through 19-17 and 15-6 in the decider.

Gary Last, at three, had a difficult start and went down in three sets 10-15, 7-15, 5-15.

Devonports’ four, Malcolm Day, claimed his match 15-11, 15-9, and 17-15 in a tight third set.

Tony Archer, playing at one, finished off a great night for Devonports by closing out another three set win 15-13, 15-7, 15-3 as the team secured 17 points.
