Victory for Haverhill Hockey Club’s second team on Saturday would see them complete the season without dropping a single point.

Thus far this term they have won all 21 of their matches in winning the East League Division Four North West (South) with just their home match with Ely City II to come (10.30am) at Haverhill Leisure Centre.

With the first team having finished their season in a healthy fifth place in Division Three North West (South), all eyes now turn to the second XI.

Four years ago, Haverhill’s first team failed to win their final match of the season when victory would have given them a 100 per cent win record in the Suffolk League.

Club chairman, Tina Bunch, hopes that sort of experience will not be revisited.

“The first team had the chance to be the invincibles but drew the last game so hopefully that won’t repeat itself.

“I think that’s been the main aim for a while now, not that we are taking it for granted that the second team would win the league and get promoted but it just adds that little bit of extra spice to go through the season with an unbeaten record.”

Of the first team’s season, she added: “We could have finished fourth but at the end of the day it’s a good performance.

“The team having got relegated found their level. We have had competitive games and we have enjoyed that competitiveness.”
