Brothers Alex and Danny Proffitt shared six medals between them at the second weekend of the Suffolk County Championships.

The Hundon based brothers, who swim at Haverhill Leisure Centre, were part of the West Suffolk Swimming Club team that competed in the competition at the Crown Pools in Ipswich.

Alex won gold in the 200m backstroke and silver in the 100m butterfly (just missing out on a sub-minute swim), both in the 15 to 16-year-old age category.

Older brother Danny’s haul of medals included silver in the 50m freestyle and the 100m individual medley (just missing out on a sub-minute time) and bronze in the 100m butterfly and the 50m butterfly.

His heat time of 24.12 in the 50m freestyle would have won him gold, but his time in the final of 24.25 meant he had to settle for silver.

Of the other swimmers competing who train in Haverhill, Angharad Evans took a bronze in the final of the nine to 11-year-old 50m breastroke and went to better that with a silver in the 200m breastroke for the same age section.

She also came fourth in the 100m freestyle final for 11-year-old swimmers.

Another medallist was Beth Edwards, who won bronze in the 100m freestyle final for swimmers aged 14 and under.

A good day in the pool for Edwards also saw her finish fourth in the 100m backstroke final (14 and under) and be first runner up in her heat for the 12 to 14-years-old 50m breastroke.

In the final of the 50m freestyle for nine to 11-year-old boys, Connor Gillingham came fifth. He went on to better that with a fourth placed finish in the 200m backstroke (11-year-olds).

Newcomers Tobin Sari, nine, and Robbie Brindley, ten, produced good personal bests in the 100m individual medley, finishing fifth and eighth, respectively in their age groups.
