Rovers beaten by Goddy on the road
Haverhill Rovers 0
Haverhill came away from Godmanchester with the hosts recording their first win since December 17, to hand the visitors their seventh loss in the 10 games over the same period.
In a first half that saw Haverhill second to almost everything, the hosts led after 13 minutes.
Tom Spark found himself one-on-one with last defender Sam Holmes and, after a nice move saw him flick it past him, a similarly well-taken touch brought the ball down into his path and he beat goalkeeper Charlie Turner.
This lead was doubled in the 35th minute following a corner on the left, the ball only being cleared to the edge of the area and home captain Joe Furness was able to take his time and pick his place, as he curled the ball neatly into the bottom left corner.
Haverhill’s best chance came in first-half added time after Will Gardner’s free-kick right on the edge of the Godmanchester box was spilled by goalkeeper Evan Jekells.
Rory Jebb was composed as he took it round Jekells from close range, but his slightly scuffed shot was cleared away by the Goddy defence before it could cross the line.
Haverhill were a better side in the second half but it was too late by this point, with neither side carving out a decent opening before the final whistle.
The defeat leaves Haverhill 16th in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division table.
