THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE

PREMIER DIVISION

Thetford Town 1

Haverhill Rovers 3

Haverhill Rovers struck twice in the second-half to secure a 3-1 victory over relegation-threatened Thetford Town at the weekend.

Rovers looked the sharper team from the off as Blake Kicks caused problems for the home defence, forcing a number of corners that were well delivered by Luke Haines.

It was from one of these corners that Haverhill took the lead, with Haines’ delivery finding the head of Martyn Farrant, who headed home to break the deadlock.

The visitors continued to have the upper hand as Ryan Weaver and Haines both went close, before Kicks pulled up with a groin strain and was replaced by Owen Longely on the left wing.

Thetford fought back and, against the run of play, were able to draw level after Shaun Hudson headed past Alex Archer from a corner.

A scrappy end to the first-half was followed by Rovers coming out after the break in a more determined mood.

An early Haines’ corner was met by a powerful header from Marcus Hunt, which hit the bar before his follow up was well saved by Jamie Barlow in the Thetford goal.

Haverhill regained their lead when Weaver raced on to Nick Wilderspin’s through ball, and chipped the ball over the advancing Barlow and into the net.

Rovers extended their lead to 3-1 after William Gardner played in a cross from the left for Riki Baker, who headed the ball past Barlow.
