Haverhill Rovers are set to go up against higher league opposition ahead of the new season after announcing pre-season friendlies with Cambridge City and Bury Town at the New Croft this summer.

Michael Shinn’s Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side will host Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division outfit Cambridge on Saturday, July 18 before entertaining Bury, just relegated to Ryman League Division One North, on Tuesday, July 21.

Rovers have also lined up friendlies on the road at Coggeshall Town (July 11) and Hundon (July 25), with Shinn hoping to put one or two more pre-season dates in the diary to help their preparations for the 2015/16 season.

The Haverhill boss has already cited the need to bring in a goalscoring centre-forward for next season, but will not be scouting far away for his coveted marksman.

“I want to bring in two or three new players in but I’m not looking further afield for them,” he said. “95 per cent of our team is local and I want to keep it local.

“I’ve invited everyone to come back for pre-season and so far nobody has said they’re not coming.”

n The opening fixtures of the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division and First Division 2015/16 season will be held on Saturday, August 8.

n Haverhill Borough’s first-team matchday programme finished third in the Soccer Club Swap Shop Awards in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division category, behind Stowmarket Town and winners Saffron Walden Town.
