Rugby round-up: Defeats for Bury and Stowmarket but wins for Newmarket, Haverhill and a local victory for Diss over Sudbury
Bury St Edmunds lost their National League Two South match 17-18 after giving away a 79th minute penalty to Old Elthamians even though they dominated most of the match.
Tries from Brad Cook, Scrum Half Adam Marshall and Luke Palmer for the home side were thought to be enough for the victory but a classic smash and grab from Elthamains and Tom White’s penalty in the dying minutes sent the away team back to London with the dramatic result.
Elsewhere, Diss won the local bragging rights against rivals Sudbury with a 20-17 away victory in their London Two North East match and Stowmarket lost to Harlow in their London Three North East game.
In the Greene King Eastern Counties League Newmarket beat Thurston (12-7) and Haverhill & District got a win against Cantabrigian (27-17)in Division One and Two respectively.
