Haverhill captain Adam Hunt had billed it as a ‘really important game’ in the four-team race in the Eastern Counties Greene King League 2 West for just two promotion places, as the visitors targeted a return to the league’s summit.

It means Haverhill have now inflicted the league double over Mildenhall this season, having also narrowly defeated them in their first meeting of the season on October 27.

But the result leaves Haverhill a place short of regaining the top spot in the league and one point off current leaders Shelford IV.

Haverhill now lead Mildenhall by one point, with four fixtures remaining. Both teams have a slip week off fixtures and will return to league action on March 2.

Meanwhile, Mildenhall & Red Lodge have confirmed that centre Will Levett remains one of their players and was only ‘loaned’ to Haverhill in their 41-0 home win over Sawston on February 9.

He played in Saturday’s derby for Mildenhall.
