Marc Abbott confirms his exit from Thurlow Nunn League Haverhill Rovers to take over at Southern League St Neots Town

Haverhill Rovers are beginning their search for a new manager to replace player-boss Marc Abbott after he took to social media to confirm he has decided to take up an approach from St Neots Town.

It brings to an end Abbott's 15-month spell in charge of Rovers, having steered them to Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division safety after taking over from Ben Cowling last November.

Also their top scorer from midfield this season with 10 from 23 appearances, Abbott will leave Rovers in a mid-table 11th for higher-league St Neots Town.

The Cambridgeshire side are currently occupying the final relegation spot in the Step 3 Evo-Stik League South Premier Division Central - two levels up from Rovers.

After St Neots came in with a seven-day approach to speak to Abbott the player-manager took to Twitter on Tuesday night to give his decision and thank the club.

It is understood Abbott will work alongside current St Neots manager Matt Clements until the end of the season before the latter takes up a new role as director of football.
