West Wratting’s winning run continues
KERSHAW PREMIER LEAGUE
West Wratting 3
West Wratting got a second away win in the league this season after victory against Cottenham on Saturday.
Goals from Callum Harrison, Shaun Avis and a penalty from Jon Welsh gave the Wratts all three points.
Rod Gaffan’s side were aiming to make it five wins out of five in all competitions and they did the job with some great quality in their first half display.
Wratting played some sublime football from the kick-off with Welsh orchestrating most of the play from midfield.
It wasn’t long before the away side had their first chance when Harrison took the ball and hit the bar with a 25-yard strike.
Cottenham keeper Steve Coe continued to be put under constant pressure from the Wratting front trio of Dan Cornwell, Avis and Harrison and it was not long before the latter got their first.
Harrison capitalised on a great pass from Aaron Forshaw and his shot gave him his 10th of the season which he dispatched effortlessly. Harrison then became provider for the second as his delivery eight yards out went to Avis who turned neatly and smashed his left footed effort into the back of the net for his 11th goal in only four games.
Cottenham gave themselves an uphill battle when they went down to ten men as striker Tyler Phillips was sent off in the 34th minute after two yellow cards.
The second half though saw Cottenham press tirelessly and they grabbed a goal which seemed to rattle Wratting for long periods.
But with ten minutes remaining on the clock Welsh gave the Wratts their third.
In a bizarre incident the Cottenham skipper fell onto the ball in his own box and seemed to hold on to it for some reason.
The referee gave the decision and Welsh stepped up and finished the spot kick with the greatest of ease to give the away side a comfortable win.
The Wratts will try to continue their run of form when they play Hemingfords United at home on Saturday (2pm).
